Employment Counsellor

About Us:

Rupertsland Institute (RLI), an affiliate of the Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA), is seeking an Employment Counsellor for our Edmonton office. With locations across Alberta, Rupertsland Institute develops and delivers programming and services to the Alberta Métis population in relation to the labour market and education assistance. Our mission is to help Métis people achieve parity with the rest of the population in terms of education and ultimately as members of the workforce.

The Role:

As an Employment Counsellor with Rupertsland Institute you will be responsible for supporting clients who are unemployed, underemployed or employment threatened by identifying barriers, developing action plans, and assisting them to apply for training and funding. Other duties include, providing job search assistance, writing resumes and cover letters, and helping clients develop solid interview skills.

To Fit the Role:

You are an organized individual who maintains close attention to detail and can prioritize responsibilities in a dynamic work environment. You have a Human Services diploma and/or 3-5 years relevant work experience in a Human Services field. You are a community oriented individual with ample knowledge on local resources and agencies who may further assist our clientele. You are skilled at problem solving and able to remain professional and calm under pressure. You are able to work effectively within a team and have a genuine interest in helping others achieve their aspirations.

Client Resource Assistant – Métis Training to Employment Services

With locations across Alberta, Rupertsland Institute develops and delivers programming and services to the Alberta Métis population in relation to the labour market and education assistance. Our mission is to help Métis people achieve parity with the rest of the population in terms of education and ultimately as members of the workforce.

The Role:

As Client Resource Assistant (CRA) with Rupertsland Institute you will greet and provide assistance to clients and visitors, provide assistance to self-serve clients and refer to other community resources as applicable.

In addition, you will update and maintain the Labour Market Resource Area and work one-to-one with clients seeking assistance with their career and/or job search. Administrative duties such as data-entry and filing apply.

To Fit the Role:

  • You are organized, personable and have the desire to help others succeed!
  • You possess an Office Administration and/or Human Services certificate and/or equivalent experience.
  • You have exemplary oral and written communication skills, and are skilled at writing professional resumes and job search techniques.
  • You are knowledgeable on community resources in the Red Deer area.

Operator (Driver) – Mobile MTE Center

About Us:

Rupertsland Institute (RLI), an affiliate of the Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA), is seeking a Driver (Operator – Mobile MTE Centre) to drive the Mobile MTE to Métis communities across Alberta. Rupertsland Institute develops and delivers programming and services to the Alberta Métis population in relation to the labour market and education assistance. Our mission is to help Métis people achieve parity with the rest of the population in terms of education and ultimately as members of the workforce.

The Role:

As a Mobile Operator with Rupertsland Institute you will coordinate safe, efficient, and cost effective travel within the six (6) regions governed by the Métis Nation of Alberta. You are responsible for arranging necessary parking and permits, location set-up and take-down, ensuring adequate marketing materials are stocked, providing basic reception duties when the Employment Counsellor is unavailable and liaison with the IT department to ensure computers and other equipment is maintained and secure. In addition, you will maintain visitor logs and provide weekly and quarterly reports on the Mobile’s activities in terms of locations visited, number of clients and other pertinent community information. This position requires approximately 90% travel but will be based out of Edmonton Head Office.

To Fit the Role:

  • You possess a class 1 or 3 driver’s license, clean drivers abstract (must submit) and 3-5 years professional driving experience.
  • You have excellent communication skills, enjoy meeting new people and are comfortable in representing and marketing RLI programs and services to community organizations, employers and clients.
  • Other competencies include basic computer operating skills (i.e. send and receive e-mail), an interest and willingness to learn about labour market and economic outlook.
  • Basic security clearance is also required.

The Role:

This position will encompass both Employment Counsellor and Project Officer Responsibilities.

Employment Counsellor:

As an Employment Counsellor with Rupertsland Institute you will be responsible for supporting clients who are unemployed, underemployed or employment threatened by identifying barriers, developing action plans, and assisting them to apply for training and funding. Other duties include, providing job search assistance, writing resumes and cover letters, and helping clients develop solid interview skills.

Project Officer:

Project Officer Responsibilities in this dual role include, but are not limited to – researching labour market trends, ensuring file integrity, and assisting with the development and distribution of communications for projects under develop and in-progress.

You have a Human Services diploma or 3-5 years relevant work experience in a Human Services field. You have basic knowledge of accounting practices and are apt at working with Microsoft excel. You are a community oriented individual with ample knowledge on local resources and agencies who may further assist our clientele. You are skilled at problem solving and able to remain professional and calm under pressure. You are able to work effectively within a team and have a genuine interest in helping others achieve their aspirations.

Consultant, Disabilities Services

About Us:

Rupertsland Institute (RLI), a division of the Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA), is seeking a Disability Program Consultant based out of our Edmonton (Head) office. With locations across Alberta, Rupertsland Institute develops and delivers programming and services to the Alberta Métis population in relation to the labour market and education assistance. Our mission is to help Métis people achieve parity with the rest of the population in terms of education and ultimately as members of the workforce.

The Role:

As Disability Program Consultant with Rupertsland Institute you will provide specialized expertise and mentoring services to support Employment Counsellors across Alberta in assisting disabled Metis clients to find and maintain suitable employment. You will provide consulting, counseling, training and vocational rehabilitation services including designing and implementing individualized vocational rehabilitation plans for physically and mentally disabled Metis clients. In addition, the Disability Program Consultant represents Rupertsland Institute in matters pertaining to vocational rehabilitation.

To Fit the Role:

You have a Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Psychology, Social Work or Humanities coupled with 3 to 5 years experience in developing action plans for persons with disabilities (physical, mental and developmental). You have extensive knowledge and understanding around accommodation strategies and technology. In addition, you have working knowledge of principles, methods and procedures for diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of physical, mental and developmental disabilities for the purpose of career counseling and guidance. Extensive knowledge of assessment techniques used to evaluate a client’s occupational readiness, including knowledge, abilities and skills is required. This position requires travel with seasonal highs in June/July and November (averages approximately 25% per year).
